Aquaphobia
She swings her feet over icy water
Listening to the trickle of the stream.
She snatches her feet back, sending a ream
Of shining lapping circles about her.
Cold seeps inside and she feels it linger,
She can’t look away from the water’s gleam,
It compels her to drop her feet and lean –
Into the dark abyss that allures her.
Plump cheeks whitened, clouds of ivory air
Blowing delicately from purple lips
Bones pressing against thin pale skin.
Feeling numbness linger on her toe tips,
She takes a deep breath and slowly sinks in.
Slipping under, takes her last taste of air.
Listening to the trickle of the stream.
She snatches her feet back, sending a ream
Of shining lapping circles about her.
Cold seeps inside and she feels it linger,
She can’t look away from the water’s gleam,
