Haha, so last night a few friends and I decided to go to this little Japanese restaurant after class...

The place was tiny and really busy, so we were asked if we would mind sitting at a table that we would probably have to share later. We told them it was fine and they seated us (it was pretty cool! It was one of those tables you had to take your shoes off before you could sit and there were these cushions that were wanna-be NOTHINGS cuz they weren't cushion-y at all!) Anyways, soon after we were seated, sure enough, we were being asked if we could share the table with four guys. We said it was fine and we went back to talking as these four Japanese guys invaded our space.

Now, being the geeky Japanese students that we all are, we stopped talking the second we realized these guys were Japanese and chose to listen in on their conversation, seeing what words and phrases we could recognize and getting secretly excited when we were successful.

After a while they seemed to realize we were listening in and one of the men asked if we knew Japanese. We told them we did and they were all surprised and we started talking (well...we tried to. They didn't really know English and we don't really know Japanese XD We did figure out they were from Tokyo and flying back home in the morning).

For a short while we were debating on freaking out because one of my friends said they looked vaguely like the jrock group Orange Range. She wasn't sure, but it was enough for a laptop to be brought out right there in the restaurant so some secret investigating could take place.

Were they the group Orange Range?

No.

Food showed up and we went back to our respective groups. Sadly, my friends and I decided to be bold and daring and ordered food that we weren't really sure about on the menu...one of which turned out to be raw beef. x_x

Did we eat it?

Yes 8D

Did we die of food poisoning?

Well...I heard from Tracy the next day...Kristi, I'm still waiting on....

One of our other dishes turned out to be fish. As in...on the plate were the fishes' bodies all cooked and complete with fins, heads, and eyeballs staring out at nothing.

Seeing as how my mom grew up in Malaysia, I've had a bit of experience in eating seafood that's still staring at me, so I wasn't as disturbed as I probably should have been and ate it just fine.

ANYWAYS! As the night went on, the Japanese men sharing our table had more and more to drink and became more and more social with us, daring us to try some of their food. I guess they thought we would freak out eating Shitake mushrooms, but we were fine. Then they challenged us to eat the squid.

Did I eat the squid?

Hell yeah, I ate the squid! *busts out her sunglasses*

It was...better than I thought it would be.

No one else ate the squid, though.

After a while the cameras were brought out and we started taking pictures. This is the only one you all are allowed to see.

You can't see it, but my fingers are also doing the victory sign just like everyone else.

They taught us a few phrases later on...and a few dirty gestures that got us laughing our asses off.

But it was really interesting to be able to dine with these guys and vaguely communicate with them. Just by watching them we learned a bit about Japanese culture and whatnot. It was a nice, unexpected bonus to our random whim to go out and eat after class. We'll definitely be doing it again ^_____^
