Who knew that 50 miles could make such a difference? You smile and wave, hug me, tell me how much you miss me, but why can't I recognize who you are? The hair that you liked so much, that tickled the small of your back, where is it? Freckles that covered your nose and cheeks, where are they? Your smile is so scant, as if any wrinkle that would dare appear would shatter your porcelain appearance, and your gold eyelashes are snuffed by some mascara.
What happened, over 50 miles and a year? You're ashamed to admit you miss the taste of honeysuckle, of fish you caught in the lake out back and fried in the same evening. Is it a crime here? Does it haunt you that you crave the silent nights again, rather than becoming this nocturnal phantom?
I'll return your smirk, and say that I miss you. I miss the days your hair was bleached only by the sun, where overalls are always in style, and where being yourself outright isn't considered a sin.
SORRY FOR THE ANGST I HAVE A DARK SOUL WRITHING WITHIN ME
